The range of work of New York based artist Hyungsub Shin encompasses site-specific biomorphic or fractal installations, sculptures based on the transformation of everyday objects, two-dimensional works on paper exploring nodal networks, biological systems, and more. A characteristic part of much of Shin’s work is the concept of infinite expansion and the opportunity for growth or contraction. In Shin’s words, “the whole structure of the installation is not significantly affected by adding or subtracting its parts.” His installations often employ materials such as electrical wires, rope, zip ties, and plastic twine, and his works on paper are largely ink and silver and gold leaf.
Hyungsub Shin was born and raised in Korea and has participated in art projects and exhibitions there as well as the United States.
