"Ken Fukushima has stated that in constant repetition one can find the path to enlightenment. In 'Landscapes of the Four Seasons', building on the masterwork by the artist Sesshu (1420-1506), Fukushima constructs mechanical puzzles of drawings measuring time and space, one layer over another, over a period of months and years, continuing through constant repetition to create his map of time. Each panel has a 7' x 13' grid, corresponding to 91 days in a season, and thematic patterns that refer to the ancient Japanese system for time description."--AAAC press release for "Landscape and Memory", 2004.
